    The Wound Care Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for:

    • Coordinating wound care therapy into the total nursing care plan for patients
    • Participating in patient and family teaching
    • Providing leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. 
    • Assessing the patient’s skin condition and wound care needs upon admission
    • Setting weekly goals and recommending appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals
    • Reporting pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, charge nurse and/or Wound Care Specialist) and recording those observations accurately and concisely
    • Participating in team conferences in development of individualized nursing care plans as they relate to wound care
    • Administering medications and performing treatments to assigned patients within the wound care environment
    • Participating in orientation of new personnel
    • Participating in unit quality assurance and improvement
    • Participating in hospital committees as designated
    • Attending mandatory hospital education and unit meetings
    • Adhering to and enforcing hospital dress code policy
    • Actively participating in the identification of areas for improvement and participating in the improvement process
    • Providing education for Clinical Staff quarterly


    The Wound Care Licensed Vocational Nurse must:

    • Have graduated from an accredited school of nursing
    • Have a current LPN license for the state in which the hospital resides
    • Have a current CPR certification and maintain the same
    • Have two years direct patient care experience
    • Experience in wound care is preferred
